Andrew Hyde: The Anti Writer

  • Jim · 11 months ago
I hate writing comments - I guess that makes me the anti commenter. Regardless, I enjoyed this post - I feel the same way every time I start to write a post of my own.

Keep up the good thoughts - us anti readers are reading.

I hate writing because A: My Grammar sucks. B: It is a full time job (to do it right). I actually like commenting, because it is like my blog away from home... likin that you have Disqus...It is the future of blogging (good choice).

Not related to this post, but your blog has been really slow loading for me. Perhaps WP-Super-Cache could speed things up?

I've always enjoyed writing so I'm coming from a slightly different school of thought. However, I agree completely on the grammar, spelling and punctuation side of it. I write to write, to formulate and express my ideas. Take them, like them, hate them, leave them. I really don't care. I'll express them how I want, when I want, and the rest is up to the reader. Don't like it? There's not even a door in your way.

The really beautiful thing about blogging though is it really does help me formulate my thoughts. What do I want to write about, how would I put that into words? How would I express that best? Does the idea hold up?

A fantastic tool. I've started doing audio recordings of my blogs as well for the same reason. It helps increase my self awareness.

For some reason, I hate writing for myself but love writing behind someone else. Not sure what that makes me.

I don't think you hate writing as much as you think you do. Anyone who blogs and microblogs and Facebooks to the extent you do couldn't do if they actually couldn't stand the sight of their own words, or the mechanism of getting them out there. I think what you ACTUALLY are is a natural writer -- in that you just do it, without pretense or premeditation. You just say stuff... and that's not anti-, that's pro.

"My frustration with modern day text editors: no visible history of mistakes and edits. Eraser marks are important." -@jack

Typos and grammatical errors are big pet peeves when I find them in my own writing. I often proof before I post, but after seeing the above tweet from @jack, I have a new respect for text strike through. When I (or someone else) find an error in my blog, I fix it, but I leave error with a strike through. I'm not perfect. I make mistakes. In writing and in life. I just want to show that I also go back and correct my mistakes when I can.

When I think about writing, I hate it. When I write, I love it. With ya.
